Just the one game last night and it was a good result for struggling Villarreal. Villarreal went into the game in the relegation zone and were desperate to put that right against fellow strugglers Sporting Gijón. A tight first half was forgotten about when Marco Rubén put the Yellow Submarine in front before Borja Valero doubled the lead two minutes later. Bruno Soriano made the points well and truely safe with a 3rd in stoppage time to condemn Gijón to 19th place at the end of play.
Villarreal out of the bottom three and now face the task of dealing with Barcelona on Saturday night. Gijón are off to San Sebastian to play Real Sociedad.
